Computer ram definition

Computer ram definition also call RAM, or 'random access memory,' Computer ram definition or RAM also can be defined as a type of memory where the data is stored in a computer and can be accessed randomly in contrast to other electronic data that has to be accessed in a fixed order. A videocassette or tape can only be accessed in a fixed arrangement according to the revolutions of the electromagnetic tape. Computer ram definition or RAM can also be defined as a type of memory that is not sequential in nature and can be accessed in any manner, even while the computer is on.

The Computer ram definition or RAM also has a much smaller memory than a hard disk. It has "discrete" or separate microchip modules plugged into the holes of a computer's motherboard. These holes are connected through what is known as a bus or a set of electrical paths to the processor.
Another important feature of Computer ram definition or RAM is that accessibility does not affect the speed of the system itself. Random access memory is the amount of data that the computer can process and store temporarily. It can be lost if the power is turned off before saving the data to the hard drive. There are two types of Computer ram definition or RAM, namely static RAM and dynamic RAM. Dynamic RAM is the most common type of RAM in the market and is widely used.
The speed of a Computer ram definition or RAM is calculated in nanoseconds, and the fewer the nanoseconds (ns), the faster the computer. Today, we use 50 ns computers as opposed to 180 and 150 ns that we used in the last decade. The speed of a computer depends upon the type of RAM that is installed in it. Efficiency and smoothness of a computer can be improved by constantly upgrading it with the latest type of chip available in the market.

Today's PCs offer a RAM of 16 or more megabytes. For graphic applications, a RAM of 32, 64, or even 128 megabytes and up to Gigabytes are used. Computer ram definition or RAM increases in multiples of 8 megabytes. PCs are usually designed to allow users to insert additional RAM modules within certain limits. New technologies promise to offer even more RAM. Check out the nonvolatile Computer ram definition or RAM that retains data when the computer is turned off or if there is a power failure. A battery within the computer powers it, and what's more it can write its contents to and restore them from an EEPROM. A RAM without its disadvantages? That's life today!
